Out-of-Hospital Casualty Care in the Current War in Iraq : Annals of Emergency Medicine , February , 2009
From the introduction: "Combat casualty care takes place across a continuum from on-scene care (“point-of-wounding”), to mobile facilities with various capabilities, to fixed field hospitals.1,2 Within this continuum, battalion aid stations are mobile medical facilities integrated into US Army ground combat units, such as infantry, cavalry, and armored (tank) and field artillery battalions and into corresponding combat units of the US Marine Corps.3 They generally represent the first formal medical treatment facility that casualties may encounter as their care progresses."
