From the document: “It is DOD policy that: a. An individual who is newly appointed to a career SES position is normally required to serve a 1 year probationary period. (1) Probationers must be evaluated by their supervisors during their first year of employment to determine whether their job performance and conduct is acceptable or not acceptable for continued employment (pursuant to section 3393 of Reference (e)). (2) In addition, even if their current performance is acceptable, probationers may be removed from the SES for conditions arising before their appointment (e.g., if negative information is found during a security clearance investigation).”
