From the abstract: “This preliminary examination of the Army’s force management system and personnel utilization data provides visibility into the deployment experience and burdens of our soldiers. Our snapshot demonstrates that it would be feasible to periodically review the data in order to maintain effective situational awareness on the individual burdens associated with sustained combat in Central Command (CENTCOM). The snapshot also provides some initial visibility into possible options to better balance the burden of deployments within the Army. These ideas present a starting point for more in-depth analyses that might lead to new policies informed by experience.”
