Immersive Workspaces: Shaping the Future of Government Work : IBM Center for The Business of Government , July 23 , 2026
From the report: "Public sector organizations face a dual mandate: improve the quality and reli ability of digital public services while navigating growing geopolitical, eco nomic, and social complexity. Immersive workspaces that combine artificial intelligence (AI), augmented reality/virtual reality (AR/VR), and digital twins can help governments to meet this mandate by making work more proactive, more coordinated across agencies, and more connected to mission outcomes.
This report develops four comprehensive narratives of the future to making government choices about the use of immersive workspaces concrete. Built from interviews with senior public-sec tor advisors and structured desk research, each narrative follows real work from “briefing to outcome,” showing how roles, workflows, data, and procurement guardrails come together. These narratives do not point to predictions. They constitute decision tools that surface trade offs and reveal where value is created or lost."
