Kenneth Girardini, Ph.D.
Kenneth Girardini is a Senior Operations Researcher in EAS department who works primarily in the area of supply chain management, logistics and data analytics.
Ken has led projects focusing on most aspects of the DOD supply chain for a variety of clients, which have led to the implementation of improved policy and processes. He used data analytics to formulate metrics, identify process improvements (e.g., shifting to scheduled trucks for faster and cheaper deliveries from DLA distribution centers, reducing non valuing adding delays in the ordering, and streamlining receipt take up on post), and track the implementation and efficacy of process improvements and help the Army instill a culture of continuous improvement that reduced order and ship times by over 50% while reducing costs. Ken has developed and implemented a series of algorithms that paralleled and leveraged the capabilities of the Army’s supply and maintenance information systems and resulted in centralizing the development and management of tactical inventory levels that significantly improved performance without increasing investment. He worked in support of deployed operations resulting in improvements in stock positioning which dramatically reduced costs and improved responsiveness during sustainment and were critical to the drawdown. Ken’s work on deployed operations has also resulted in policy and process changes in Army prepositioned stocks which led to more robust recommendations, more use of empirical data, and techniques for better determining which items should be forward positioned. Ken’s work currently focuses on leveraging machine learning and artificial intelligence tools to further improve algorithms, process, and policy for the integrated data environment afforded by the Army’s federated ERPs.
